What's In My Bag? (And Tampax Review)

I actually had to click an agreement confirming that I was okay with reviewing a feminine product.  That tells me there are women who have an issue with discussing these things.  Grown women who have a problem with it.  For some reason, that cracks me up.  I don't know about you, but I got over the horror, nay the shock, nay the pure, white-hot embarrassment that comes along with being a girl back when I was in Jr. High.

So, if you are one of those people, just click away.

This post is about tampons.

And pads.

And the cute little bag they came in.  Get over it.

In keeping with the theme of all things girly, I figured I'd go ahead and do a "What's in my bag" post.  When I was in school, one of the seemingly favorite past-times for my friends and I was to paw through each other's bags. 

I haven't noticed much of a difference in the blogger world!

So, thanks to Natalie at EXTRA LARGE as Life who kicked off this idea forever ago when I saw her post and was inspired, oddly enough, because we both carry the mini Sharpie, which
is just so random, therefore I present you with:

The endless bag of death.

My affectionate nick-name for my purse since things tend to get lost and die in
there.  Expiration dates beware.

Note, there is no picture of the actual bag itself because I change it out every
few weeks, but you'd be very surprised what small, cute bags I can cram all this
shit into.  We will get to the numbers in a minute.

This is what I WAS storing my girly stuff in.  As you can see, this contained a tampon, a pantyliner, lip balm, brush, mirror, bobby pins, a small jar of hand cream, a few bandages, and if I'm wearing it at the time, lipstick gets tossed in there.

It is now all in the cute little bag from Tampax!  I swapped out the makeup items from my other bag and put them in this one with their tampons and such (behind the pantyliner, you can't see it in the pic).  I haven't tried the actual products themselves, yet, but I'm sure they will be just fine as I've used Tampax products in the past and had no trouble with them...and I do love the bag.  Everything fits fine except the bulky hand cream and that leaves me the candy-patterned bag empty now for...

My new tool pouch!  This is awesome, too, because all of this comes in such handy, but its just been sort of floating around in the bottom of my bag or in side pockets.  They very much needed their own home. 








So!  Back to those numbers!  ^_^

1 - beauty pouch - as mentioned, contains lip balm, bobby pins, pantyliner, tampon, brush, and mirror.

2 - lots of pens.

3 - coupons, calculator, fuzzy notebook.  Notebook contains measurements in the back for windows, cabinets, doors, etc., in case needed at a flea market or whatnot.

4 - wallet

5 - change/money pouch

6 - jewelry graveyard - things I carry with me in the unlikely event I ever actually remember to get it fixed.

7 - hand cream

8 - mini-Sharpie.  I stole this from the Wookie about 2 years ago and have carried it ever since.  This thing seriously comes in handy.

9 - keys

10 - tools - 2 knives, Leatherman, mini Mag lite, lighter, measuring tape with a Hello Kitty sticker on the front so the Wookie won't steal it.  I've already lost 3 to him, so this time I took precautions.

Usually the phone, my camera, and sometimes Ipod and/or DS get tossed in there, too before we leave the house.

Summer Beauty Vox Box! (& Quaker Soft Baked Banana Nut Bar Review)

Oh yeah, look who got her box today!

...and its a really exciting one!

...also someone got very happy with the label maker, it looks like.  In other news, I'm crappy at covering addresses in photos and had to assist myself with the editor to hide things.  I'm good like that.

I apologize for the one crappy overall photo.  My camera was blinking at me, screaming that it was out of batteries and I don't have any new ones to put in it at the moment, so this will just have to suffice.

This box contains a Tampax and Always Radiant collection, a 3-ounce bottle each  of Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy shampoo and conditioner, a 2-ounce Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen SPF 30, which I am very excited to replace my crappy dollar store sunscreen that I use on my face with, a 1-ounce Sally Hansen Nails and Cuticles Hand Creme sample, a Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color in Polar Purple with the wavy pattern magnet thingy (excited to try), and a Quaker Soft Baked Bar in Banana Nut Bread.

Here's a better shot of the Tampax and Always Radiant collection which contained two tampons, a pad, and three pantyliners...Things which never do NOT come in handy.  Such an adorable bag, too!  You will see more on this in a future post, so keep looking for that!  Also, ignore the mess on my stove controllers...I have been doing a lot of cooking projects lately (more posts in the future, yes, hmm), but it would seem I missed that spot when I wiped the stove down.  Oops.

Here's the banana Nut Bread bar...  More on that in a second.

...And here is a shot of the inside of the conditioner sample cap.  And may I just say, a 3-ouncce size is a pretty generous sample.  My hair isn't very long at the current moment, so I should get about 5 or 6 uses out of these, which should be plenty to review it on.  It is hard to tell in the picture, but that is not glare you see.  The shampoo and conditioner both are actually a light purple color.  I'm hoping this will make them just stellar for my bleach-blonde hair!  This stuff smells like heaven.  The whole box smelled of it and as soon as I opened it, I went pawing through it for the source of the scent!  Can.  Not.  Wait.  To try this.

Since my boxes always seem to arrive just when I roll out of bed, I decided to eat the snack straight away again!  This time with some coffee.  I am impressed.  This thing is decidedly tasty!  It does taste like a banana nut muffin, but I noticed it had almonds on top, which is good, I love almonds, and also it had a bit of a crisp texture to it from what tasted like puffed rice pieces in there.  Quite good, an I will be keeping a watch on these for sales at the store as they would be great to keep around for days when I'm too lazy to cook breakfast.  Like today.  These go for about $3.29 a pack, which I'd say is definitely worth it!

DIY Nail Polish Colors (and GLITTERS!)

I did this about a week or two ago after seeing the idea on Pinterest and realized upon trying it that Lindsay over at Delighted Momma may have had one of the best ideas ever in this.

She used clear nail polish for hers, but I had tons of these lying around.  I got a massive grab bag of 7 or 8 nail polishes and 2 lipsticks for $1 at a discount outlet and four of the colors were this milky color.  By reading the names of them, my guess would be that they weren't always white, but got left near a window for far too long.  Yes, the sun is brutal enough to do that here.  Either way, it made them the perfect project polish!

Here's just a random shot of the top of one of the bottles.  I think its so pretty and I'm just obsessed with them.  I used two of the bottles up on craft projects (yes, yes you do sense a future post coming), and popped the little gems out of the caps to save for more projects later.

You'll also need GLITTER!

...as well as eyeshadow, whatever nail polish you want to use as your base, a small piece of paper to make a funnel out of, and a stick to sort of poke stubborn clumps down the funnel.  I used a popsicle  stick and trimmed one end into a point.  The pretty purple in the background was my test-run.  No eyeshadow in that one, just the flaky purple glitter.

So, step one is to choose what color you want your nail polish to be.  I have next to no neutral tones in my collection, so I decided to remedy that.  Once you choose your color, take the pointy, trimmed popscicle stick and crushy crushy crushy.  It doesn't have to be all powdery, it will break up in the bottle, but you want it small enough to go down the funnel easily.

Make your funnel out of paper...I didn't even bother taping mine up, it stayed once I put it in the mouth of the bottle.  Add the eyeshadow powder a little at a time, shaking in between additions.  Keep going until you get the shade you want.

Here, you can see on my pinky where it wasn't quiiite dark enough yet, so I added a bit more and the ring finger is the final product.

You can also see my purple test-runs...Index finger was the first test.  NOT ENOUGH GLITTER!

Traffic finger second...STILL NOT ENOUGH GLITTER!

Thumb was the final product.  Yay!  ^_^

I have no idea why the brand name-less cheap-o glitter I used turned the nail polish itself purple and I have no idea if other glitters would do that or not because this is the only type I had, just in various colors!  Will be trying other types in the future, though.

DIY Glitter Bottom Heels!

Wow, this month is just flying by.  I checked up on my blog only to realize that I hadn't posted in damn near a week ...Oops.  I have a few projects I've been working on and a few small ones I've completed this month, but most of the interesting stuff is temporarily on hold since we've got a lot of things in the works in the near future.  New place = chaos before and all that.

Here is one small project I've gotten done lately.  I have no idea who to credit for this since it seems everyone and their mother is doing it, so if you're the original shoe-glitter-er, then let me know so I can give you credit!  ^_^

You'll need a cute pair of heels (or, alternatively, an ugly or plain pair you want to be cute in the near future), glitter, some brushes, water, and some sort of adhesive.  I improvised.  The only glues I seem to have in the entire house are hot glue, glue sticks, and Elmer's wood glue.  I must remedy that soon, but since I am about the farthest thing from patient ever and wanted glitter shoes NOW, I used the wood glue. 

Now its pop-quiz time!
Not any pictures of the actual process because it is:
a) easy as hell
b) I had glitter and glue EVERYWHERE
c) I'm just not sure how much more gluey-handed accidents my camera can handle
d) all of the above


If you answered all of the above, then pat yourself on the back or something.

Moving right along...I first coated the bottom arch of the sole (I didn't bother doing the "hey, I'll be walking on that..." part) with a nice, thick coat of wood glue.   While that was still wet, I applied the glitter.  I started off sprinkling, but I was grabbing pinch-fulls and patting them on there so it would be more dense after a few minutes.  Impatient, I tell you.

I used the flaky, splintery glitter.  What is the technical name for that type of glitter?  Is there one?  Who gets to name glitter?  Is that job position available?

Sorry, distracted.  Ok, now after that dries (I gave it half a day), I wanted to attempt to seal it so that glitter wouldn't just be forever left in my wake.  Ok, so it still is, just not from the shoes.  I made a glaze to go over it and I mixed it down about 2/3 glue 1/3 water.  Brush that mixture all over the glittery parts.  If you want more glitter or need to fill in bald patches, then go for it.  You can always let it dry then go over it with another glue wash later.  I did two washes, letting each one dry about 2 or 3 hours between applications.

Once it was done, I let them sit for a day or two to just make sure everything was all good.

I wore them out the other day and THE GLITTER STICKS!!!  :)

Sorry, super happy.  I half expected it to just be all over the place.

Monthly Photo Post - The Truly Random Edition

Its time for another monthly photo post.  This is just a mish-mosh of pictures I've taken that I found stashed in various folders around my computer with descriptions below, so I hope you enjoy!  ^_^  As usual, all these pictures were taken by me so if you want to use any, feel free just please credit me and put a link back to my blog.

I love this picture.  If you look closely you can see the trees that were on top of a neighboring mountain silhouetted in the moon.

Our ground...The cracks are worse now.  Some are over an inch wide.  If they get much bigger we may find Narnia or have our own Journey to the Center of the Earth adventure.  On accident.  While trying to get to the mailbox.

The creepy banana stickers.  I blogged about these a few months ago and  now my collection has grown and my fridge sports six of these stickers.  I'm in love with them and I have no idea why.  They are delightfully creepy.  I seek them out when I'm at the grocery store buying bananas and I have this crazy idea of the entire freezer door being patterned with them.

I have no recollection at all of taking this picture, however it was obviously taken by me as those are my legs, jeans, and boots...but I'm glad I did because I love it and I have no idea why.

I took this at an old cemetery that was just scattered with these little "unknown" stones.  Rumor had it that in the Civil War so many people died in the woods around the area it was taken in that for years and years afterwards someone would just find a body or a skeleton that couldn't be identified and they'd put it in the cemetery with one of these stones.  I don't know if the rumors are true, but it does make for a nice, albeit sad, story and I rather like the picture.

Anyone else love taking pictures of completely random shit?

DIY Ring Case from a Cigar Box

This was a long time in the making.  I got this box forever ago, it was filled with retro rubber stamps that I wanted and I think we paid like $2 for the whole thing.  Ever since then, I've wanted to do something with the box itself because its a pretty neat, old, wooden cigar box.  I didn't paint it or age it, all the paint and aging you see is just how I picked it up.  I've thought of painting it, or maybe decoden, but in the end I just kind of like how perfectly age-worn the old paint job on it is and can't really bring myself to mess with it.

This was its first incarnation.  I'd seen a "make a ring box with a sweater" thing on pinterest and gave it a try.  It worked, but the one I'd seen looked much better.  I couldn't get my sweater lines all straight and pretty, so I wanted to think of something else.

Ignore the messy stove.  I have no idea which kitchen project needs scraping off the stove, but if you cook without making any mess whatsoever then you may not actually be human at all.

Also, the Tony Cacherie's will not be being used in this tutorial.  I'm sorry for any disappointment or inconvenience this may have caused you.

So I pulled all the rings out and dumped them into a wooden saucer and got to work!

First,  I cut a rectangle of foam that would fit inside the box.  You may not have to do this, but my box was pretty deep so I wanted a platform to sort of start with.  I was using 1-inch thick foam.

YAAAY it fits!

Next, I cut another rectangle the first size as the first, then cut it into strips.  I wasn't too worried about them being perfectly uniform as I have some huge, bulky rings and some small ones, so I figured if they weren't all the same size, then all the rings would have a place.  Anywho, once your strips are all cut, take them back out leaving in just the bottom large rectangle.

Now, we just need something to cover that ugly foam with!

Enter:  25-cent thrifted red velvet pants.

I cut a strip off of the pants that left about an inch on either side of the box width-wise and was about 2.5 times as long as the box is length wise.  For clarification, "width-wise" is, to me, on a cigar box, the widest part and length-wise is the shorter part.

Now is where it gets fun.  Pick what end you want to start on and take one of your little foam strippy-things and glue the velvet to one side of it, then glue the bottom of the foam strippy-thing to the large rectangle.

This shot is so you can see just the foam with the velvet glued onto one side of it and the foam part glued to the big foam part.  The excess on the edges, I just tucked in with a butter knife as I went along.

Next, run a bead of hot glue down the crack there where the small strip of foam meets the large piece.  Then, pull the fabric taught and stick it to the glue in the crack.  You should end up with a velvet-covered foam piece.

Take your next piece of foam strip, glue it to the big one as close as you can get it to the first one, then stretch the fabric over that piece and stick it to the pre-glued crevice just like you did the first one.

Repeat that.  A lot.

Once you get going with it, its pretty quick, you can just sort of start accordion-ing that shit together like there's no tomorrow.

Once I got to the end, I smooshed the final foam strip down and ran a bead of hot glue on the inside of the cigar box, tucked the ends in, and when I let it go, it just sort of sprung up to the top and it all just stuck together.  Woot for foam springiness.

Here it is, storing stuff as it should.  ^_^  Still a bit lumpy, I'd really like it to look a bit better, but it is what it is and it definitely works like a charm.  Best ring storage to date, especially since some of my rings are oddly-shaped the foam tends to just conform to whatever I stuff in it.
